2.0 Facebook in the News

Perhaps it's just because I read Digg/Reddit/Slashdot often, but news of Facebook pops up all the time. Articles were flying around when Microsoft invested $240m for a 1.6% share in the company. More articles flew when Facebook launched the opt-OUT (now opt-in) Beacon application, which tracked what purchases you make online, even when logged out, and send the data back to Facebook's servers. Or reading about the various concerns regarding accessibility of profile information by staff, or the sheer waste of time and thus money Facebook causes employers.

However for each bad story you hear a good one, like this one about a Canadian mother finding her son she gave up for adoption through Facebook. Or about how a silly employee learns that Facebook is really NOT private. Or about how Stephen Colbert's President group on Facebook has over 1.5 million members. And you have to give the creators and coders of Facebook credit for crafting such an insanely popular and wealthy company at such a young age.

However none of these articles really address how the people are using Facebook. I wanted to expand on my own experiences and look at what other people had to say... but to also take a different look at it, and see whether this Facebook embrace represents a global "level up" of Internet participation. I thus created the survey. You can read about the survey or go straight to the results.
